Jane the Virgin on The CW Television Network , is currently ranked #5 on TV Guide's "Most Popular" list. The show stars Gina Rodriguez (Deepwater Horizon, Filly Brown) who won the 2015 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-Comedy or Musical.
On the show, Gina plays, Jane Villanueva, a chaste Catholic young woman who is accidentally impregnated via artificial insemination during a routine visit to her Doctor. The show follows her life as she struggles to not only inform her devoutly religious family about her situation but make the right choices concerning the child.

Jane the Virgin sends Gina and her entire family into a head-spin of comedy adventures and is actually based upon the Venezuelan telenovela "Juana la virgen". Rodriguez, herself, who is of Puerto Rican heritage was raised in the U.S. in Chicago. She says when she first read the script of Jane the Virgin, it was a refreshing and hilarious take on Hispanic family life and it was a “most authentic, genuine representation”.



In addition to the Golden Globe Award, the show currently has won another 12 awards including: 2 Imagen Foundation Awards (promoting positive portrayals of Latinos in all forms of entertainment media) and a People's Choice Award (2015 Favorite New TV Comedy). Additionally, the show has another 39 award nominations total.

With a limited amount of Latin based sitcoms currently airing, Jane the Virgin may be able to create entertainment that will resonate with an English-speaking/Hispanic audience while simultaneously attracting a multi-cultural and diverse viewership for The CW.
